Anti Return Policy

Before you judge, here us out...

We do things a little differently here at Local Commons, in that we do not offer any returns. Before you criticize this decision, please read everything below which explains why we have made this decision, and why we are sticking to it.

My Story With Returns

I have worked in the retail industry for over 10 years now, for both brick and mortar and E-Commerce companies. While I genuinely love working in retail, one thing that has always bothered me and many of my peers, has been the amount of cardboard and plastic used in transporting goods, and the amount of returned items that get thrown away.

If you were to see one weeks worth of returns and the boxes/plastic used to package them up... your jaw would drop. When you know that is happening every single week, you begin to feel a major sense of guilt.

One day at a previous job, our entire team was called to process the backlog of returns we had from previous month. While we were going through all of these returns, I had a colleague turn to me and say "I had no idea we use this much cardboard and plastic ... This is actually appalling." I could not agree more with my colleague, and at this moment, I started thinking of how to change this.

While I can't change other companies and their environmental impacts on the world, one thing I can change is my company. That is why I have this "Anti Return Policy" - I will not be responsible for further polluting our planet, and I will not sacrifice doing the right thing over making a profit.

If you are against this policy, and it is the reason you will not be making a purchase, I fully understand.

Other Reasons for our "Anti Return Policy"

  • We pay our makers a monthly commission off the items they sold. We would never feel comfortable requesting money back from a maker from a returned item.

  • We donate 5% of every sale to a local charity. If we accepted returns, this donation we make would not be possible.

What If I Don't Like the Item?

If you purchase an item and it is not what you hoped for, we sincerely apologize. We recommend paying it forward to a friend or colleague, or even donating it to a local charity you trust. You would be shocked how many people appreciate the gesture of receiving a small gift.

We do our best to provide the best photos possible depicting the product, and writing descriptions that accurately describe the product, and any imperfections if it is a "Lo-Com Finds" item.

What If I Purchased Clothing and It Does Not Fit?

If you purchased an article of clothing and it does not fit correctly, we do offer a one-time exchange. The item must be unworn and in sellable condition, with any tags still attached if applicable. Send the item back to us, and we will send you the different size of that item that will hopefully fit you better. Once we send this exchange, it is a final sale item and we cannot make any further changes.

What If My Item Arrives Damaged?

If your order arrives damaged, please take photos right away when you notice the damage. Send them to our support team at info@localcommons.com and we will get back to you with a solution.

Are There Any Exceptions?

Unfortunately, we are standing by this policy, and will make sure you are aware of the policy before checking out. If you have further questions, email us at info@localcommons.com.
